Dear Friends,
In March 2012, the Center for External Linkages, Alumni and Development (CELAD) of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Development and Institutional Relations (DIR) learned of the touching story of children who have to swim in open water to get an education. Located in remote island communities, these children bravely face the perils of swimming through mangroves and changing tides every single school day.
The story was told to us by Mr. Aristopher Lipnica and Dr. Antonio Ingles, Jr. We were moved all the more to learn that, from their own compassion and generosity, some CSB students gave a donation of 4 boats to the children in one of the three identified island communities.
Known as the Yellow Boat of Hope Project, the story of the plight of these children has been shared through and only in Facebook (FB). Having generated so many clicks and support on FB in such a short span of time, the Yellow Boat story spread and was featured in GMA, ABS-CBN, IBC 13, Al Jazeera, CNN, Yahoo! On Wednesday, 22 August 2012 from 1:00-2:30 pm, DLS-CSB through the Linkages Office has invited The Yellow Boat Foundation President, Dr. Anton Lim and Chief Storyteller, Mr. Jay Jaboneta, to tell us the story first hand. Venue is at Room 900, School of Design and Arts Campus.
